gypsy vanner horses - deirdre's charm

Deirdre's Charm

A beautiful and unusual quaility mare. On a recent trip to Ireland, we visited with the Cash Family of Clononeen farm. They were kind enough to help us find a beautiful new jumping horse for our daughter Kelsey. A great Irish sporthorse. Of course we had to go on a gypsy horses tour. The Cash's have a fabulous selection of gypsy horses. Looking at herds of horses, this one mare stood out. We fell in love with this particular mare. The appaloosa color was a fad in the early fifties. Hard to hold the spots the gypsies were breeding piebalds. There are still some appaloosa gypsy horses around regaining popularity once again. But we have never seen such a quality appaloosa mare. Even with out the fabulous coloring, this mare has it all. Conformation movement temperment and hair. Bloodlines too!!! She is ones of the sweetest mares we own.The coloring is just a bonus. This mare was a prized mare of Deirdre and Brian's father Pat Cash. One of the few mares that were kept as a prize in their herd. We had to have her. So appropriatly named in honor of Deirdre Cash and her welcoming charm and hospitality Blarney Stone Acre's is proud to own a peice of history. One of Irelands finest mare. And now proudly, one of our finest mares.

gypsy vanner horses-Fiona

Fiona

Fiona is a beautiful, sweet, and elegant four-year-old filly, born 7/6/2001. She has excellent movement and conformation, loves people, is currently ridden by a 12-year-old, and consistently jumps two feet. She would be a great horse for anyone. She is now at 13.3 hands. She has excellent bloodlines — her fine, silky mane is characteristic of the China Doll line. Her sire is Smokey from England ; and her dam is Bayhaven's Tir na nóg. A pure and traditional Romany horse, her breed is renowned for its calm and sweet temperament.

gypsy vanner horses-Gillee

Gillee

On May 25 Melodee had a filly out of Smokey (what a long twelve and a half months!). Her name means "song" in the Romany language, and we named her that because she is constantly singing — literally. What a chatterbox! We've never heard a horse sing and talk so much, not even stallions.

Melodee

Melodee, acquired in late 2003, comes direct from a family-owned field in England and boasts traditional old-family bloodlines. Her first foal was Babes. Standing at 13.1 hands tall, she is as traditional and elegant as they come.

gypsy vanner horses-Rosie

My Wild Irish Rose ("Rosie")

Rosie, a perfectly lovely broodmare imported from England, is Zeta's mother. Hers is an ancient and traditional Gypsy horse lineage, reaching far back through many generations of horses. Her dam (mother) is the Teddy Mare, and she is a granddaugher of The Roadsweeper U.K. Her coloring derives from an Eddie Alcox Black Horse. At 15 hands, black and white, with incredible feathering and temperament, she is an excellent example of the Gypsy breed.

Watch the Rosie Video!

In this 15-second clip of Rosie jumping, notice the leg extension, and the movement of the back leg reaching for the front leg. As she goes over the jump, look take special note of her mane spread out behind her and the front legs tucked under. And look at the height of the jump and the 2-foot extra clearance. She is not just jumping — she is flying! This is the look of good Gypsy horses in movement, and something they have been bred for. They are incredibly elegant for such a strong and sturdy horse, yet the movement seems effortless.

gypsy vanner horses-Wisteria

Wisteria

At 14 hands, Wisteria is a Billy Boy daughter. She was brought over from Europe and is a Gypsy horse with basic dressage and training — a real beauty. She also performs Western spins.

Gypsy Vanner Horses - Zeta

Zeta

This mare was born 4/27/2002 and has a great personality — she is very curious and extremely friendly. Zeta will be a large horse, as both of her parents are 15 hands. She has unique coloring and excellent bloodlines. All of these qualities she is very likely to pass on to her foals. Her dam is My Wild Irish Rose ("Rosie" — see above), which makes her a Teddy Mare granddaughter. Zeta is smart and beautiful, qualities that contribute to the overall allure of this breed.
